Uses
It is used in the spice industry as a raw material for methyl vanillin and ethyl vanillin. In the pharmaceutical industry, it is used as an intermediate for the synthesis of antihypertensive drugs atenolol, DL-p-hydroxyphenylglycine, broad-spectrum antibiotics (oral), phenylethyl ketone, amino acids and other compounds. It is also used as a raw material for varnishes, dyes, plastics and agricultural chemicals, and can be used to produce allantoin, which is an intermediate for antiulcerative pharmaceutical products and cosmetic intermediates.
