Properties

In production and life, sodium carbonate is used to make pastry, sodium hydroxide, etc., or as a formula for a variety of detergents. Water purification uses it as softener. The chemical industry is used to make sodium silicate, sodium dichromate, sodium nitrate, sodium fluoride, sodium bicarbonate, borax, trisodium phosphate, etc. In metallurgical industry, it is used as smelting flux, flotation agent for mineral processing, and desulfurizer for steelmaking and antimony smelting. It is used as a softener in printing and dyeing industry. Leather industry is used for degreasing raw leather, neutralizing chrome tanning leather and improving the alkalinity of chrome tanning liquor.
